We have a few methods we use to address drainage on a flat roof:

• Internal drains in the middle of the roof. They work like a shower drain. Water falls down the pipe and out to the ground.
• Holes or cutouts along the roof's perimeter called scuppers. Water falls through the holes into a downspout outside the home.
• Properly installed gutter systems
• Sloped insulation boards that are thinner on one end. It acts like a ramp and forces water down toward the drains.

Proper drainage is critical to prevent the roof from taking on too much water. Too much water can lead to serious damage and compromise the roof's integrity.

We do not recommend it. If your roof is leaking, it's likely got internal damage. If wood is rotting, then the roof is no longer structurally sound. Placing a new roof on top will trap the moisture inside, making the problem worse. All wet insulation and damaged wood should be torn out and replaced before putting on a coating or installing a new system.
